Landings at both ends are poor. The south half of the portage was very overgrown when I went through, but well-cairned, so it was not hard to follow. From the east, the trail starts off through brush, crosses a short bog, and then continues through gooseberry brush (not so good if you're wearing shorts and sandals). Eventually, the trail climbs to open granite highlands, followed by a long descent through a stand of red pine. Average difficulty overall.
