We did this on a daytrip, so we weren't fully loaded, but my impression was this may be the easiest "long" portage in the BWCA. It really doesn't have any major hills going from Cummings to Buck. It is narrow, but clearly defined. The landing on the Buck side is the nicest landing in the region that I came across on our trip.

rocky, though manageable, landing on the Cummings end. For the most part, the trail is pretty much a straight forward path with minimal challenges beyond the overall length. There is some minor undulation along the way as the trail parallels a swamp for most of it's length and even crosses it a few times (trail will likely be muddy in those sections). Ironically, the trail terminates at a small sugar sand beach on the Buck end.
