We took LIS from Otter Lake to Little Trout. It's a challenging full-day trip, but possible. The river is beautiful, though we crossed a dozen or so beaver dams. This portage was particularly hard to find from the river side. We passed it, even as we scoured the riverbank looking for it. Ultimately, we used our map and GPS device to find the coordinates of the portage. It's muddy for the first little bit, but then is a totally serviceable portage (though a little grown in). If you plan to take this route, give yourself the whole day and be prepared very careful looking for this portage from the river. (It is tucked in a little inlet on the west bank. There's a log in the river that may be the dock referred to in the guidebook)

This portage is long, confusing, and not to be messed with. I would advise to NOT take it. The LIS is marshy and full of beaver dams. We had hoped to get to Cummings lake but re-routed to Chad Lake due to time. Do NOT take the creek to Chad lake..it was awful.
