BWCA Campsite 1302 on Newfound

This campsite can accommodate both canoes and motorboats. The landing has a fallen log that splits it into two sides. One side works well for motorboats because it is deeper and has a place to tie off to a tree. The other side has a smooth, sloping rock that works well for a canoe. The campsite sits up on a slight rise and has a lot of shade from spruce and cedar trees. I found two good tent pads, though there are numerous other places where tents could go if needed, so I am calling it two good tent pads and seven maximum tent pads. When approaching Horseshoe Island, it looks like the campsite might be out on the point where there are large pine trees and a more open area, but that is not where the campsite is. The actual campsite is on the east side of the island, a little ways away from the point. There is a faint trail out to the point, and another trail goes over to the other site on the northeast side of the island. Overall, this is a shaded, usable site with good capacity, though the actual campsite is more tucked away than it first appears from the water.

Landing is wet unless you step up onto tree roots. Site is up a slight rise, pads are scattered around in the trees. Lots of shade. Kitchen is fine, although only two logs for seating and one is perched right in front of a drop down towards the landing.
