BWCA Portage 503 (Thomas)

Quick and easy portage. The Kekekabic trail cuts through which provides a cool log bridge spot to look at the small waterfall near the start.

From what we saw, there's no water conditions where walking this one in either direction would make any sense; don't even try. I made the mistake of putting the boat back in the water very close to where the Kekekabic trail crossed the stream, which just led to difficulty pulling the boat over more obstacles. It would have been easier to not take the turn at the junction (which was difficult with the boat above my head, as well), and take it all the way to the pond. The landing is to the right of the channel when coming from Thomas, and should be pretty obvious, if a little rocky.

Decent landings on both ends. There is a nice rock shelf on the downstream end that is perfect for taking packs on/off. Trail climbs only slightly. Kekekabic Hiking Trail cuts through the portage but, common sense should get you where you need to go.

We ended up pulling out and carrying this one. The water level was decent, but we didn't know what it would hold. Easy carry, landings weren't bad.
